The sleek bob is set to be the hottest haircut of 2019. Spring Hair Trends and the recent Oscars saw a styled sleek bob as the glamorous hair choice to hit the red carpet. Inspired by the ’70s revival and popular celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Charlize Theron, a new shorter length is set to be the standout hairstyle for 2019. Because a new year brings with it a whole host of new hairstyles and hair trends just waiting to be experimented with. The cut being the top trend for the year, let us guide you in how to achieve the glossy glam garbo’s look.

1. Perfect Products.
We use Sebastian Professional Hair Care  to create the silky shiny look, we would apply Potion 9 (link) Potion 9 is a wearable styling treatment that makes a great base for blow drying your hair. Its conditioning formula contains active oil botanicals to restore your hair’s natural condition, while the protective agent cocktail enhances manageable styling leaving hair with renewed shine.
After blowdrying and styling, we would finish the look with a fine spritz of Shine Shaker wonderfully lightweight, this delicate spray enhances your hair with a mirror-like shine for a high-gloss, high-impact finish.

2. The Blow Dry.
After you have worked through Potion 9  use the nozzle attachment on your hair dryer and blow down the hair for a super shiny blowout.

3. Finishing touches.
Section the hair into three parts (left, right and back), brush a 1 to 1.5″ section of the hair from roots to ends, then follow the brush with your flat iron. After the hair is flat ironed, use your hands to press the hair against the scalp and use the cool shot of the blowdryer to set it. Spray a toothbrush with hairspray and gently brush the hair around the face and brush down any flyaway strands.

4. Olaplex Treatment.
At Garbo’s we love to use the Olaplex system when colouring hair. This reduces damage and ensures the colour lasts longer. Olpalex works from inside the hair strands to strengthen and repair damaged locks where the structure has broken down. Hair bonds break when hair is coloured and subject to regular heat, chemical treatments and up against the elements. It allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of hair and it is compatible with all hair types. We also offer an Olaplex treatment to help leave you with healthy, shiny and happy hair!

Behind the Chair…. Getting to know the team

We have previously communicated all the exciting changes that are due to happen in the coming month. As we welcome all our fantastic artistic team into the Flagship Southsea salon, we thought you might like to know a bit more about them and what inspires them. Our first interview is with the lovely and very talented Tara…

Quote from the stylist “ The best hairdressers never stop learning” says bright young and smiley Tara.

Tell us a little bit about your hairdressing journey?

I have been hairdressing now for 13 years. I started my career at age 17 and have never looked back. I think I first decided I would like to be a hairdresser at 11 years old, and I can honestly say it’s the best job in the world. In the hair industry things are constantly changing with fashion and trends, and it gives you the opportunity to constantly learn new things. Education is something I really enjoy, and I am always looking at ways in which I can improve my skills, and learn more. Colour is something I particularly enjoy doing – balayage especially.

What do you think makes Garbo’s unique?
Working at Garbo’s you feel like you are part of a family. Everyone works really hard to make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. As a team I feel like we are very supportive of each other and will always help each other out.

How do you feel; about the hairdressing industry today?
The hairdressing industry has become more and more increasingly trend led – especially with the likes of Instagram and Pinterest. Personally I love how things are always changing, as it gives us the chance to learn and grow.

What inspires you?
I always find social media very inspiring, and am always picking things up on there that I want to try. My favourite service to perform is a balayage – it is a very bespoke service and almost always completely tailored to the individual.
