The sleek bob is set to be the hottest haircut of 2019. Spring Hair Trends and the recent Oscars saw a styled sleek bob as the glamorous hair choice to hit the red carpet. Inspired by the ’70s revival and popular celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Charlize Theron, a new shorter length is set to be the standout hairstyle for 2019. Because a new year brings with it a whole host of new hairstyles and hair trends just waiting to be experimented with. The cut being the top trend for the year, let us guide you in how to achieve the glossy glam garbo’s look.

1. Perfect Products.
We use Sebastian Professional Hair Care  to create the silky shiny look, we would apply Potion 9 (link) Potion 9 is a wearable styling treatment that makes a great base for blow drying your hair. Its conditioning formula contains active oil botanicals to restore your hair’s natural condition, while the protective agent cocktail enhances manageable styling leaving hair with renewed shine.
After blowdrying and styling, we would finish the look with a fine spritz of Shine Shaker wonderfully lightweight, this delicate spray enhances your hair with a mirror-like shine for a high-gloss, high-impact finish.

2. The Blow Dry.
After you have worked through Potion 9  use the nozzle attachment on your hair dryer and blow down the hair for a super shiny blowout.

3. Finishing touches.
Section the hair into three parts (left, right and back), brush a 1 to 1.5″ section of the hair from roots to ends, then follow the brush with your flat iron. After the hair is flat ironed, use your hands to press the hair against the scalp and use the cool shot of the blowdryer to set it. Spray a toothbrush with hairspray and gently brush the hair around the face and brush down any flyaway strands.

4. Olaplex Treatment.
At Garbo’s we love to use the Olaplex system when colouring hair. This reduces damage and ensures the colour lasts longer. Olpalex works from inside the hair strands to strengthen and repair damaged locks where the structure has broken down. Hair bonds break when hair is coloured and subject to regular heat, chemical treatments and up against the elements. It allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of hair and it is compatible with all hair types. We also offer an Olaplex treatment to help leave you with healthy, shiny and happy hair!

Behind the Chair…. Getting to know the team

We have previously communicated all the exciting changes that are due to happen in the coming month. As we welcome all our fantastic artistic team into the Flagship Southsea salon, we thought you might like to know a bit more about them and what inspires them. Our first interview is with the lovely and very talented Tara…

Quote from the stylist “ The best hairdressers never stop learning” says bright young and smiley Tara.

Tell us a little bit about your hairdressing journey?

I have been hairdressing now for 13 years. I started my career at age 17 and have never looked back. I think I first decided I would like to be a hairdresser at 11 years old, and I can honestly say it’s the best job in the world. In the hair industry things are constantly changing with fashion and trends, and it gives you the opportunity to constantly learn new things. Education is something I really enjoy, and I am always looking at ways in which I can improve my skills, and learn more. Colour is something I particularly enjoy doing – balayage especially.

What do you think makes Garbo’s unique?
Working at Garbo’s you feel like you are part of a family. Everyone works really hard to make you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. As a team I feel like we are very supportive of each other and will always help each other out.

How do you feel; about the hairdressing industry today?
The hairdressing industry has become more and more increasingly trend led – especially with the likes of Instagram and Pinterest. Personally I love how things are always changing, as it gives us the chance to learn and grow.

What inspires you?
I always find social media very inspiring, and am always picking things up on there that I want to try. My favourite service to perform is a balayage – it is a very bespoke service and almost always completely tailored to the individual.

As you know I am moving to Corfu with my lovely wife Annie to start a new adventure. I wanted to thank you all for being such loyal clients and friends for the past 20 odd years. I will miss you all and it’s been a pleasure looking after you and your hair. I do hope that you continue to visit Garbo’s. As you already know we have the best trained and talented hairdressers in Hampshire. I have recommended stylists to some of you, but those that I have not then Julie our amazing receptionist has been informed on who to suggest for you to use or when Jimie is colouring your hair he can advise you too.
While I will still cut hair in Corfu as I could never give it up as it’s in my blood and I love it with a passion. Annie and I are going to run an Air B’n’B within the house that we have brought, so if any of you would like a holiday in the sun then you will all get really good mates rates and we would love to see you. Winter Hair Care Tricks and Tips

We want our locks to look amazing all-year round, but the colder winter months can take its toll on our hair and it needs a bit more tender loving care. You may wonder why hair is dry and incredibly unruly at cooler temperatures. In the winter months hair tends to lose its silky nature and is difficult, and often not willing to submit to our styling efforts. Dry central heating indoors can also play havoc with our hair as the scalp is more prone to dehydration, resulting in dryness.

The team at Garbo’s are here to help and have put together some top tips to avoid dull looking hair in the cold season. Here are our winter hair care tricks and tips.

Olaplex: Our hair hero!

The Olaplex hair treatment is one of the biggest advances in hair technology for years, It really is a hair hero when dealing with damaged and brittle hair. Loved by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Olpalex works from inside the hair strands to strengthen and repair damaged locks where the structure has broken down. Hair bonds break when hair is coloured and subject to regular heat, chemical treatments and up against the elements. It allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and integrity of hair and it is compatible with all hair types. At Garbo’s we love to use the Olaplex system when colouring hair. This reduces damage and ensures the colour lasts longer. We also offer an Olaplex treatment perfect for winter hair care.
Thinking of a colour change to start the New Year off? Book a complimentary colour consultation and receive a free Olaplex with your colour service.

Sebastian Professional Hair Care helps you to create your ideal style from start to finish.

Get rid of winter hat hair by using Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray it helps create hair-raising root volume, leaving you with bigger hair and a defined style over your hair. Volupt Spray keeps hair soft, sumptuous and better to touch.

Regular trims are essential

The most effective way to winter hair care and looking after your locks is to get rid of the dead ends. Hair that has been over styled, over washed and put through the weather extremes needs some extra care so book in for a trim today.

Keep washing to a minimum

Prevent hair from further drying out in the cold and limit hair washing to two-three times weekly. This minimises the amount of heat styling in your routine, which can be extremely harsh on the hair, especially in the winter. Keep the water Luke warm to protect the hair from losing moisture.

Nutrition for Healthy Hair

A balanced diet is necessary for a healthy scalp and hair. The living part of hair is under the scalp skin where its root is housed within its follicle. It derives its nutrients from the blood. Health concerns e.g. stress, trauma, medications, medical conditions and smoking can affect the hair.
The essential omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin B12, and iron, found in fish sources, prevent a dry scalp and dull hair colour. Dark green vegetables contain high amounts of vitamins A and C, which help with production of sebum and provide a natural hair conditioner. Legumes provide protein to promote hair growth and also contain iron, zinc, and biotin.. A deficiency in biotin intake can cause brittle hair and can lead to hair loss. Nuts contain high sources of selenium and therefore are important for a healthy scalp. Eating a colourful, balanced diet will help you to have happy healthy hair all year round.

– Start by prepping the hair with light spritz of Sebastian Trilliant, then in large even sections take a big barrelled tong and wrap hair loosely around it.
– When creating this look around the face aim to start the wave at eye level and wrap away from the face.
– Run some Sebastian Texturizer through the ends and then finish with a light hairspray.

Messy Bun

The DIY top knot is forever being reinvented from sleek and smooth to this seasons messy bun. Here our are top salon tips to creating that chic party ready messy bun.

– Start with hair loosely curled.
– Section front half of hair out of the way.
– Backcomb crown area and then secure the back half of the hair in a low ponytail using a hair elastic. Gently tease the crown area to create a more messy look. Lightly back brush the ponytail and pin the ends in a random order to create the messy bun.
– loosely twist back the front in sections to add to the messy bun keeping some tendrils around the face out, top up wavy bits as required.
– Secure with hairspray.

Sassoon Course cuts

For over 60 years, the reputation of Sassoon Academy has been built on developing and providing world-class education at their academies and education centers around the globe, inspiring generations of hair professionals of all levels of experience.

Tristan has become part of the extended Sassoon Family and has taken away with him a piece of the culture that created Sassoon.

The abc Cut course provides one week devoted to the touchstone techniques used by Sassoon trained stylists, allowing Tristan time and space to truly perfect his lines, graduation, layering and combinations.

Staying motivated can be a constant challenge, so this course is tailor-made to assist Tristan in achieving his goals.  The Salon Creative Cut course will elevate Tristan’s day-to-day salon work to a new level.

The course  focused on creating salon looks to take back to the Garbo’s Salon.  Inspired by the proprietary methods of abc cutting hair the Sassoon way.  Tristan learnt how Sassoon’s innovative cutting techniques can be tailored to suit the Garbo’s clientele whilst giving Tristan the tools to inspire members of the Garbo’s Team.

“So very pleased to have been a part of the Heritage of my craft, and also very excited, to bring my refined skills and new techniques to the streets  of Southsea with more precision & contemporary shapes”
